Treasurer Pack Announces Enrollment Incentive for WVABLE Savings Program in April

In conjunction with National ABLE to Save Month in April, State Treasurer Larry Pack is proud to announce an enrollment incentive for the WVABLE Savings program throughout the month of April.

The STABLE Account Enrollment Incentive will be available to all eligible individuals who open a new account with WVABLE through April 30. Through this effort, STABLE Account will match the minimum initial deposit of $25 that the new accountholders contribute when opening an account. This special month-long event is taking place in accordance with ABLE to Save Month.

“This is a great opportunity to start saving today through this important program,” Treasurer Pack said. “Over the last seven years, my Office’s WVABLE Savings Program has helped empower hundreds of West Virginians with disabilities to become more financially independent.”

WVABLE is an important savings program that helps individuals with disabilities become more financially independent. Before WVABLE, West Virginians with a disability were not permitted to save more than $2,000 without being at risk for losing federal needs-based benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid.

By offering this incentive to potential new accountholders, WVABLE hopes to help more individuals jumpstart their savings and investment journeys.

“We are excited to announce this enrollment incentive,” WVABLE Savings Program Director Roxanne Clay said. “For any ABLE eligible individual who may have been putting off enrolling in WVABLE, now is a great time to do so. This is an excellent opportunity to receive additional funding in your STABLE Account and to start setting and reaching your savings goals.”

West Virginia residents who developed a disability or blindness before the age of 26 and are eligible for SSI or Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, or have signed a Diagnosis Form from a license physician, are eligible to open a WVABLE account.

There are currently over 900 active accounts with WVABLE, with $8.7 million in total assets under management. The average account balance now stands at $9,653, which is nearly five times the previous savings amount allowed prior to the passage of the ABLE Act.

WVABLE is administered by the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office through a partnership with the Ohio Treasurer’s Office STABLE program. For more information, or to sign up for an account, visit WVABLE.com.
