Treasurer Pack Commemorates National ABLE Savings Day

State Treasurer Larry Pack commemorated the second annual National ABLE Savings Day on Thursday, August 14 by encouraging employers, advocates and individuals with disabilities to explore the ways the WVABLE savings program can empower residents to become more financially independent.

“Our Office’s WVABLE Savings Program continues to help empower hundreds of West Virginians with disabilities to become more financially independent,” State Treasurer Larry Pack said. “We encourage West Virginians to take advantage of this program in the month of August.”

As part of the day, there is an enrollment incentive for the WVABLE Savings program through the month of August. The STABLE Account Enrollment Incentive is available to all eligible individuals who open a new account with WVABLE through August 31. Through this effort, STABLE Account will match the minimum initial deposit of $25 that the new accountholders contribute when opening an account.

National ABLE Savings Day was organized by the National Association of State Treasurers to raise awareness of ABLE programs and to encourage families and employers to recognize the benefits these plans provide to help family members, friends and employees with disabilities in reaching their full financial potential.

“Financial well-being and stability are key components to living a life of greater independence and WVABLE is providing that pathway that ultimately leads to improved quality of life for eligible West Virginians with a disability,” WVABLE Director Roxanne Clay said.

"National ABLE Savings Day celebrates the ability for eligible individuals with disabilities and their families to finally dream big, plan for their future, and save tax-free without the fear of losing eligibility for their critical public benefits."

West Virginia residents who developed a disability or blindness before the age of 26 and are eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, or have a signed Diagnosis Form from a licensed physician, are eligible to open a WVABLE account.

There are currently 948 active accounts with WVABLE, with $9.66 million in total assets under management. The average account balance now stands at nearly $10,189.98. There have been 211 newly enrolled accounts during FY 2025 and an increase in total assets under management of $2,476,326.

WVABLE is administered by the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office through a partnership with the Ohio Treasurer’s Office STABLE program. For more information, or to sign up for an account, visit WVABLE.com.
