Treasurer Pack Presents More Than $5,000 to Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office from September Online Firearms Auction

State Treasurer Larry Pack today presented a more than $5,000 unclaimed property check to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the Treasurer’s Office online firearms auction which ran from September 15-29.

“Safer communities are crucial to a better West Virginia. That is why we must do everything in our power to support our law enforcement agencies,” Treasurer Pack said. “My team is proud to return these funds to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office. The people of Raleigh County have nearly 144,000 unclaimed property listings totaling over $15.6 million. I encourage everyone to check our online database to see if my Office is holding any money for you or your family.”

Treasurer Pack presented a total of $5,017.30 to Raleigh County Sheriff Frank Priddy during a check presentation Friday morning at the Sheriff’s Office in Beckley.

“We really appreciate this check,” Sheriff Priddy said. “What we are going to do is use this money to buy new firearms for the department. We are currently in the process of hiring seven new officers, so this will be a tremendous help in purchasing these new firearms.”

Last month, Treasurer Pack announced the winning bid amount from the September online firearms auction was $130,100 placed from a federal firearm licensed dealer in West Virginia. It was the first winner from West Virginia to participate in the Office’s online firearms auction.

More than 25 bids were submitted from licensed dealers spanning across nine states. There were 584 firearms that came from 20 different law enforcement agencies, including the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, that were up for bid.

“These online firearms auctions help modernize our Unclaimed Property Program by extending the market value of sales by securing buying power from dealers across multiple states,” Treasurer Pack said. “Our local law enforcement needs all the help they can get so we’re proud to get this money back to them.”

So far in 2025, the Treasurer’s Office has sold 1,928 firearms and 600 pounds of ammunition for a total of $400,000 from one in-person live auction and four online auctions.

The next online firearms auction is schedule for November.
