Treasurer Pack Returns More Than $1,500 in Unclaimed Property Funds to Braxton County CVB

SUTTON, W.Va. – State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Sutton on Tuesday where he presented more than $1,500 in unclaimed property funds to the Braxton County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

“Returning money to local entities such as the Braxton County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau shows just how important our Unclaimed Property Program is,” Treasurer Pack said. “These funds belong to the CVB and we are happily giving the monies back to the organization. We will continue working to return every dollar we can to rightful owners across West Virginia. Make sure to keep checking our online database because you never know if you’ll find money in your name.”

Treasurer Pack presented $1,518.75 to the Braxton County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau on Tuesday morning. The money, which was found after a search of Treasurer’s Office unclaimed property online database, came from stale dated checks.

“We truly appreciate the work being done with unclaimed property,” Andrew Smith, Executive Director of Braxton County CVB said. “Time flies, and sometimes you might not realize that the check you were waiting for never arrived, or you assumed it did—just not to you—and someone else took care of it. When I was first told the CVB had unclaimed property, I assumed it must be a mistake. Due to the diligence of the staff at the WV State Treasurer's Office, we learned about an award given to us in 2019 that we weren't aware of, which had been mailed to the wrong address. Thanks to the State Treasurer's Office for helping us secure our missing funds.”

Last month, Treasurer Pack announced his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division returned nearly $40.2 million worth of unclaimed property funds to individuals, businesses and organizations during Fiscal Year 2026.

The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $527 million worth of listings in its database statewide. There are more than 19,000 unclaimed property listings worth more than $1.8 million in Braxton County.
