State Treasurer Larry Pack today presented more than $12,000 in unclaimed property funds to the City of Nitro.
“Our local governments need all the help they can get so they can continue to serve their communities. We’re proud to give the City of Nitro and its citizens the same opportunity to put their money back to work,” Treasurer Pack said. “I encourage more individuals, businesses, and organizations to check our unclaimed property database because you never know if there may be funds in your name.”
The unclaimed property check was valued at $12,056.05 and came from refunds and miscellaneous payments. Treasurer Pack delivered the check to Nitro Mayor Dave Casebolt at Nitro City Hall on Tuesday morning.
“I appreciate the State Treasurer’s Office,” Mayor Casebolt said. “There is $500 million in unclaimed property in the State of West Virgina. It is a simple process to go and see if your name is on that list. I did it last night and, believe it or not, my name was on there three times, so all you have to do is go to the State Treasurer’s Office’s website and go to Unclaimed Property and see if your name is there. In Nitro, we got over $40,000 a few years ago, so the money is there.”
Treasurer Pack recently announced his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division returned more than $1.7 million to more than 5,300 individuals, businesses, and organizations during the month of May.
The Treasurer’s Office has more than $530 million worth of unclaimed property listings in its database. Putnam County has nearly 108,000 listings valued at $10.3 million.
Since the start of Fiscal Year 2026, which began on July 1, 2025, the Treasurer’s Office has returned nearly $36 million to rightful owners.
