State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Pleasants and Ritchie counties on Thursday where he presented more than $33,000 in unclaimed property funds to the Pleasants County Clerk and the Ritchie County Commission.
“Returning unclaimed property is about putting money back where it belongs and making sure these dollars can benefit the communities they came from,” Treasurer Pack said. “We’re pleased to return more than $33,000 to Pleasants and Ritchie counties, and we encourage every individual, business, and local government across West Virginia to check our database for money that may be waiting for them.”
Treasurer Pack presented $30,000 to the Ritchie County Commission and $3,857.30 to the Pleasants County Clerk on Thursday afternoon.
There was a packed room for the Ritchie County Commission check presentation.
“We can do something special for the county with this money,” Ritchie County Commissioner Kenny Church said. “We will find somewhere useful to put this money and it’s going to contribute to having a great county.”
The money for both checks came from stale dated and miscellaneous payments.
“There are many possibilities where this money could go,” Pleasants County Clerk Jody Davis said. “We have a lot of mini grants for individual groups, parks and recreation projects, and transportation. Many individuals are going to be helped with this.”
Treasurer Pack recently announced his Office returned more than $3.2 million to individuals, businesses and organizations across West Virginia.
The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $527 million worth of listings in its database statewide. There are more than 11,000 unclaimed property listings worth more than $1 million in Pleasants County. In Richie County, there are currently more than 19,000 listings worth more than $3 million.
Since the start of Fiscal Year 2027, which began on July 1, 2026, the Treasurer’s Office has returned nearly $4.6 million to rightful owners.
