HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Huntington on Wednesday where he presented more than $42,000 in unclaimed property funds to the Cabell County Board of Education.
“Returning this large amount of money to the Cabell County Board of Education is a great example of why our unclaimed property program is so important,” Treasurer Pack said. “These are funds that rightfully belong to the school system and putting it back where it belongs means those dollars can once again benefit our schools, our teachers, and most importantly, our students. We will continue working to return every dollar we can to rightful owners across West Virginia. Make sure to keep checking our online database because you never know if you’ll find money in your name.”
Treasurer Pack presented $42,869.04 to the Cabell County Board of Education on Wednesday afternoon. The money, which was found after a search of Treasurer’s Office unclaimed property online database, came from stale dated checks and miscellaneous payments.
“We are appreciative of Treasurer Pack and his Office,” Cabell County Schools Superintendent Keith Thomas said. “This will help our students in a lot of ways."
Last month, Treasurer Pack announced his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division returned nearly $40.2 million worth of unclaimed property funds to individuals, businesses and organizations during Fiscal Year 2026.
The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $527 million worth of listings in its database statewide. There are more than 237,000 unclaimed property listings worth more than $33.5 million in Cabell County.
