Treasurer Pack Returns More Than $50,000 in Unclaimed Property to Minnie Hamilton Health System

State Treasurer Larry Pack visited Glenville on Tuesday, Aug. 26 to present a more than $50,000 unclaimed property check to Minnie Hamilton Health System.

“I’m proud my Office was able to return these lost funds to Minnie Hamilton Health System so they can continue serving patients in their community,” Treasurer Pack said. “I am thrilled to return these funds to the rightful owner, and I encourage all West Virginians to search our online database to see if my Office is holding any money for you or your family.”

Treasurer Pack joined Minnie Hamilton Health System CEO Stephen Whited on Tuesday morning to present the unclaimed property check, valued at $50,231.27, which came from stale dated checks.

The money was located at a Calhoun County senior event this month. The Treasurer’s Office Unclaimed Property Division then contacted Minnie Hamilton Health System about the lost funds.

“You really don’t think about it, but when the (Treasurer’s) Office is out seeking and trying to help the taxpayers of West Virginia, it certainly is exciting,” Whited said. “We have $50,000 which is not a little bit. It will go a long way especially with all the projects that we’re doing both here in Gilmer County and Calhoun County.”

Whited said the funds will be used for facility upgrades including investing in new equipment.

Treasurer Pack recently announced his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division returned $1.8 million to individuals, businesses and organizations in West Virginia during July, the first month of the new fiscal year. More than $40.6 million was returned during Fiscal Year 2025, which was a new record compared to the previous year.
