State Treasurer Larry Pack on Wednesday presented more than $4,000 in unclaimed property funds to the Morgantown Police Department and Parkersburg Police Department in connection with the West Virginia Treasury’s June online firearms auction. Treasurer Pack presented the checks during his speech to the 2026 West Virginia Municipal League Annual Conference at Embassy Suites in Charleston Wednesday.

“Our law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way every day to keep our communities safe. They deserve more than our gratitude. They deserve our support,” Treasurer Pack said. “We are helping our law enforcement agencies free up valuable evidence room space by turning confiscated weapons into additional revenue for necessary resources that further public safety. At the same time, by modernizing our unclaimed property program and returning record amounts of money to West Virginians, we’re proving that good government can both serve citizens and support those who keep our communities safe.”

Treasurer Pack presented $2,636.76 to the Parkersburg Police Department and $1,375.71 to the Morgantown Police Department. The Parkersburg Police Department sold 26 firearms, and the Morgantown Police Department sold 14 firearms during the June online firearms auction.

“We appreciate the efforts of the Treasurer and his office, his staff, for this program,” Parkersburg Mayor Tom Joyce said. “It just falls in line with everything that the Treasurer and his office have done for cities and local governments from day one.”

Treasurer Pack recently announced the winning bid amount from the June online firearms auction was $60,492.00 placed from a federal firearm licensed dealer in West Virginia. There were 489 firearms sold from 18 law enforcement agencies across West Virginia that were up for bid. More than 15 bids were submitted from licensed dealers spanning across nine states.

In Fiscal Year 2026, which started on July 1, 2025 and ended on June 30, 2026, the Treasurer’s Office sold 2,028 firearms for a total of $296,097.23 from four online auctions. Winning bids came from federal licensed firearms dealers in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Georgia. Bids can be made only by Federal Firearms License Dealers.
